In partnership with Texas Instruments and Würth Elektronik:
Overview
The theoretical material and numerical design examples covered in our Buck and Boost Power Supply Design and our Isolated Loop Design workshops are great for understanding the principles and helping you design your own power supply down to component level. However, in our opinion, there is no substitute for real hands-on practice with a complete design example on a real power supply.
Therefore, we have written 6 Power Supply Design Example Workshops and designed 6 educational teaching PCBs that we call Design Example Kits (DEKs) to complement our theoretical workshops. Each workshop concentrates on one specific topology and control method and has its own dedicated DEK.
Using numerous videos, presentations, and laboratory notes, we build on the material and design examples of our theoretical workshops and guide the participants through an entire design example, component by component. As you complete your design you solder the relevant components on your DEK until the entire power supply is complete. To ease laborious calculations and save time, design examples and calculations are either based on freely available online tools or our advanced Power Supply Design Software WDS which you will receive a free license* for.
Please note that you will need a soldering iron in order to solder some of the components that you calculate throughout your training on your DEK. DEKs are designed with teaching and learning in mind; there is plenty of space, easy to understand and find component naming on the silk screen, many test pins and large footprints for easy soldering.
By the end of the workshop, you should have a fully functioning power supply which you can test, measure, and if necessary troubleshoot using our extensive lab notes. Furthermore, the DEKs are designed in a versatile and configurable manner such that you may modify them to redesign your power supply with different specifications.
You will need:
- To have covered the content in the Power Supply Hardware Design online learning workshop
- A soldering iron
- Basic soldering skills (guidance provided)
- 12 Volt 1 amp bench top power supply or equivalent
- Resistive load (guidance provided)
Workshops
- Power Supply Design Example Workshop with Labs
- Constant-on-Time Buck Hands-On Design Example Workshop
- Asynchronous Buck Hands-On Design Example Workshop
- Synchronous Buck Hands-On Design Example Workshop

Pricing
- Power Supply Design Example Workshop with Labs: $850 for one user.
- The online training portal and your WDS license will be accessible for 18-months from the date of registration. This means you will have 18-months to complete the workshop. After this time you can extend your registration on a monthly basis for a small fee.
Completion
Following completion of the workshop users will receive a certificate.
Prerequisites
All of our Design Example workshops require users to be comfortable with the concepts covered in our "Power Supply Hardware Design Workshop" or knowledge at a similar level.
For the "Flyback Hands-On Design Example Workshop" we highly recommend completion of the "Opto-isolated Control Loop Design Workshop" or knowledge at a similar level.
